Better Business Bureau Rated:
Estimated Delivery Charges: Free delivery if date is four days out or more
Same Day Delivery Available: Yes, see chart above for prices.  Very reasonable same day delivery prices.

My Rating: 2.5  out of 5. I give the rating as 2.5 because of a high number of negative reviews.  However, the website is beautifully designed, descriptions are error free and professional.  Same day delivery prices are very low in comparison to most other gifting and flower companies.  It is very convenient to send gifts internationally and have the option to pay in several different currencies.  For this reason I do not give the lowest score possible.  There is a very large assortment of flowers, gifts and cakes in many different prices ranges to fit nearly every budget.   This is also considered in my overall scoring.

Five layers of fruit flavored, multi-color cakes are topped with vanilla frosting and whimsical rosettes. Each cake arrives packaged in a gift box with a greeting card you can personalize.

The cakes are absolutely beautifully appointed and look very delicious.  This review is not based upon an actual sampling of the cake but reviews from those that have purchased.

This particular Rainbow Cake is $128.23.  Not too easy on the pocketbook but I found these reviews about the cake:

I have never purchased from this company personally but I do plan to give it a test run within the next 6 months, most likely around the holidays.  As my site grows I will personally buy and review each of the products I feature and update the reviews accordingly.  For now, I simply cannot spend hundreds to thousands of dollars to purchase every singe item.  I will send a request for a sample sent to me from the company and will update you on the status.

The company’s address is listed as:

Sunnyvale, CA 94085-5405, US
Tel: 2016060910263

As is protocol for products that I review but have not actually purchased, I have scoured the internet- particularly review sites so that I may get a pulse on this company and give a varied and objective review.

Review Site #1 Sitejabber
Site Jabber has given PickUp Flowers a star rating of approximately 1.5 stars.  There are 319 reviews avaiable here at the time of this review.
As you can see, there are 298 one star ratings which is approximately equal to 0.9341% of all the ratings available.  Conversely, there are 12 five star ratings that account for approximately 3.76% of the reviews.  The 1 star review ratings cite delivery, quality and poor customer service as the main reasons for the poor reviews.  A lack of English speaking customer service representatives was also mentioned frequently.

One thing to keep in mind however is that although several negative reviews can certainly be a red flag for a buyer to beware, people are always going to talk more about something when they are upset as opposed to when they are very satisfied.

I cannot tell you the number of times I have been just thrilled about something and had every intention of writing a letter to a supervisor or a corporation to tell them how happy I was with their service.  The times that I actually followed thru on these good intentions fall well below 1%.

Likewise, when I am VERY upset you can BET someone is going to hear about it and LOUDLY.  It is just human nature that we will speak up more often than not when we are upset and not follow through with letting companies know when we are extremely satified.

Here are some eye opening statistics:

  • On average, happy customers tell nine people about their experiences with a company (Source).
  • In a survey of more than 75,000 consumers, the number one most important factor in a customer’s loyalty is reducing their effort (the work they must do to get their problem solved).  (Source)

Neil Patel is a well known social media and internet marketing expert as well as the author of several New York Times bestselling books.  Surprisingly, he states in his article Your Business Needs More Negative Reviews and Here’s Why, “…85% of consumers look for negative reviews in order to make informed purchase decisions. And this number skyrockets to 91% among consumers from the ages of 18-29”.

This may seem counter-intuitive, but something to consider given all the negative reviews on Sitejabber is that companies with only 5 star reviews may come off as ‘fake and untrustworthy’ according to Patel. “One thing companies do not want to do is come across as insincere”.

The chart below shows a break down of review sites and rates them according to trustworthiness.  As you can see, Yelp and Facebook are highly regarded as the most trustworthy review sites with a 20% rating.  The above review site, Sitejabber isn’t even listed among the top sites.  The average rating on Yelp is 3.65.  Yelp also has the most stringent review guidelines,” according to Patel.

It is very interesting to note that were no reviews at all on Pickup Flowers for Yelp in Sunnyvale, CA at this point in time.  I also removed the location and did not find any reviews at all.  There are several negative reviews on Facebook however, and it is wise to take this into consideration when purchasing.

I generally do not make every purchase based upon negative company reviews online but they do hold some weight.  I always try to give a company the benefit of the doubt despite bad reviews.  At the end of the day it is a personal decision for each of us that we all have to live with when choosing which reviews to put our trust in and which reviews to ignore or give the benefit of the doubt and take a chance on a company anyways.  Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised with Pickup Flowers.

I hope you enjoyed this review.  If you have any comments or personal experience with Pickup Flowers please be sure to leave your story below.

  1. Dave Sweney says:

Thanks for the thorough review of the Pickup Flowers company. From time to time I order flowers as many do and this service has a huge potential if they can work out the customer service side of their business I think. If I were managing their reputation management program (which they likely do not have) those many negative reviews would be addressed.

The other gift baskets and etc. also are great products to offer, so it seems that the biggest issues they have are quality control, shipping processes, and the customer service I mention. Their sources for tor the flowers and gifts likely need to be looked at…

Nonetheless, they are selling in the market and experiencing success in spite of the negative reviews, so it tells me that I could probably try them and maybe sell to them while trying them out (maybe reaching out and pointing out some of the areas they need to improve on)… Definitely, I will give them a go for the next time I order flowers.

      Hi Dave,

I am happy you enjoyed the review! I have no doubt you would improve upon the reputation mgmt. it is such a vital part of managing a business especially in this day and age of social media. When you interact with your client base and proactively work to resolve their problems it shows that you really care about your clients. Please let me know what your experience was like if you order from them. I would love to interview you and add it to my review.
